In a village nestled between rolling mountains, so long ago that even great-great-grandparents couldn't remember the time, there stood a most unusual library. This library had no walls, no roof, yet it was filled with all the secrets of the world. The books floated gently in the air, emitting soft, gentle light—like a congregation of fireflies lost in dreams.
One day, a curious little boy named Xiao Ming was flying a kite on the hillside when suddenly the string snapped. The kite drifted, drifted, all the way into this mysterious library. Xiao Ming chased after his kite, and to his amazement, he discovered that one particular book inside the library was waving at him! The book looked extremely ancient, with strange symbols drawn on its cover—rather like tiny pictures, and also like expressive emojis that could speak.
Curious, Xiao Ming opened the book. Suddenly, a golden light flashed, and he realized he could suddenly understand what the book was saying! The book's voice was gentle and ancient, like a grandfather telling stories.
"Welcome, little one," the book spoke, "I am the I Ching, a book devoted to explaining change. This character 'Yi' means exactly that—change. Do you know what? Everything in this world is constantly changing—the sun rises and sets, the moon waxes and wanes, spring transforms into summer, winter becomes spring. And I am the ancient people's 'compass for change' prepared especially for you!"
Xiao Ming's eyes widened in amazement. He had never imagined that such an old-looking book could speak, nor had he ever considered that there could be a book dedicated to "change." He couldn't help but ask, "Grandfather, where did you come from?"
The book smiled and began to tell its own story.

The Magic of Three Lines: Fu Xi and the Birth of the Eight Trigrams
Long, long ago, before written characters existed in this world, there lived a wise person named Fu Xi. Fu Xi was one of humanity's ancestors, and every day he pondered a single question: How could he make people's lives better?
One evening, Fu Xi sat by the Yellow River, lost in thought. The sun slowly set, and the sky transformed from blue to orange, then to purple, and finally to black. Stars emerged one by one, like someone had scattered a handful of glittering candy across the heavens.
At that very moment, a radiant dragon horse leaped out from the Yellow River! On the horse's back was a strange pattern, composed of what looked like lines. Fu Xi looked closely and discovered that those lines came in two types: one was a solid horizontal line, representing "Yang"; the other was a horizontal line broken in the middle, representing "Yin."
Fu Xi had a brilliant idea. He thought, "If I use a solid line to represent the sun (Yang) and a broken line to represent the moon (Yin), wouldn't that be drawing the two most important things in heaven and earth?"
But Fu Xi wasn't satisfied with just this. He continued observing nature and discovered even more fascinating opposites: heaven and earth, hot and cold, man and woman, movement and stillness... So he began using these lines to create more symbols. He combined three horizontal lines together and created eight different patterns. These are what we today call the "Eight Trigrams"!
Xiao Ming, listening intently, grew even more excited: "Wait, let me guess! The Qian Trigram has three Yang lines, does it represent heaven? Because heaven is the greatest, the most Yang, the most powerful!"
The book nodded approvingly: "How clever of you! That's right! The Qian Trigram (☰) consists of three solid lines, representing heaven. Imagine—the sky looks like a complete blanket, without any cracks, so we use solid lines to represent it. And the Kun Trigram (☷)? It has three broken lines, representing earth. Beneath the ground lie tunnels, caves, underground rivers—so we use broken lines to represent it."
Xiao Ming clapped his hands excitedly: "I get it! The Li Trigram (☲) is fire, because fire looks like it's jumping upward, so the middle is solid (Yang)! The Kan Trigram (☵) is water, because water flows and is empty inside, so the middle is broken (Yin)!"
The book laughed happily: "You're the smartest child I've ever met! Come, let me introduce all eight trigrams to you—"

The eight brothers joined hands and formed a great circle. Qian is heaven, Kun is earth, Zhen is thunder, Xun is wind, Kan is water, Li is fire, Gen is mountain, and Dui is lake. Each trigram has its own personality and story, just like eight brothers in one big family!

The Magic Cube with Sixty-Four Squares: King Wen and the Sixty-Four Hexagrams
Xiao Ming had just finished hearing the story of the eight trigrams and was about to ask more questions when suddenly the library's lights flickered. A new voice rang out—it was King Wen's voice, floating out from the book's pages.
"I am King Wen," the voice said, "Though I was locked in prison for many years, I didn't waste my time. I took ancestor Fu Xi's eight trigrams and stacked them in pairs, creating sixty-four different changes!"
Xiao Ming asked in amazement: "Grandfather King Wen, why did you stack the trigrams together?"
King Wen explained: "Xiao Ming, do you know that real life isn't as simple as the eight trigrams. Take you, for example—on the outside you're a little boy, but on the inside you also have your own thoughts and feelings. Your outer self plus your inner self equals the complete you. Stacking two trigrams together is like combining a person's outer appearance with their inner self, allowing us to see a much more complete picture!"
