Welcome to the Electronic Kingdom
The morning sun sneaks through the curtains, and Xiao Ming rubs his eyes and stretches. A new day begins! Let's follow Xiao Ming and see what magical things he'll encounter this morning.
Xiao Ming goes to the kitchen, where his mom is heating milk in the microwave. "Ding!" The microwave beeps, and the milk is warm. Xiao Ming wonders: How does the microwave know how long to heat the milk?
Next, Xiao Ming puts on his digital watch and checks the time. "7:30, time for school!" This little watch can not only show time but also count his steps and sync data with dad's phone! There must be something powerful hidden inside.
They get in dad's car and start driving. "Welcome to Smart Navigation." A gentle voice comes from the car. "Speed camera in 500 meters, please watch your speed." Xiao Ming asks dad in surprise: "How does the car know there's a camera ahead?"
At school, there's a big TV screen in the classroom where the teacher plays educational videos. On the playground, an irrigation system automatically waters the flowers in the morning. All these devices seem to have their own "brains," completing various tasks automatically!
What Are Embedded Systems?
Clever as you are, you've probably noticed there are so many electronic devices around us. Some are big, like the TV in the classroom; some are small, like a watch; and some are hidden where we can't see them, like the "brain" inside the microwave—we call it the "controller."
Inside all these devices lives a special "mini-computer." We call it an Embedded System.
A Simple Analogy
Let's play an imagination game! If we imagine your brain as a super powerful computer, then:
Imagine you are a postman. Every morning you have many things to do: wake up, check the time, eat breakfast, go outside. For each task, you need to think about what to do next. This is like a general-purpose computer, like the computer at home or mom and dad's phone—it can handle all kinds of tasks.
But what if your job is just to press the doorbell at exactly 8 o'clock every morning? Then you don't need to think much—just press the button at 8! Such a "computer" doesn't need to be so smart; it just needs to do one thing well. That's an embedded system!
Characteristics of Embedded Systems
专用性(Specialized Purpose)
An embedded system is like a "specialized little expert"—it only does one specific thing. The system in a microwave only controls heating; the system in a watch only displays time and records steps. They don't need to do many things like regular computers.
实时性(Real-time Response)
Many embedded systems need to respond "immediately." For example, a car's braking system—when the driver steps on the brake, the system must stop the car instantly, not even one second late! This ability to "stand by and act immediately" is called real-time response.
(Reliability)
Embedded systems usually run for a long time without errors. Imagine if your watch had to restart several times a day—that would be so troublesome! So embedded systems need to be very stable and reliable.
体积小(Compact Size)
Since embedded systems need to fit inside various devices, they're usually made very small. A smartwatch is only as big as a fingertip, so the "computer" inside must be small too!

You see, embedded systems are truly everywhere! They're like hardworking little sprites, quietly serving us and making our lives more convenient, comfortable, and safe.
Electrical Basics: Understanding Invisible Energy
To learn embedded systems, we first need to understand a bit about electricity. Don't worry—we'll learn it in a fun way!
Current is Like Water Flow
Imagine a very long water pipe. Water flows from high ground to low ground, forming a water current. Electricity works the same way! Imagine a "river of electricity" where charges (like tiny water droplets) flow from one side to the other, forming an electric current.
The unit of current is the Ampere, abbreviated as "A." Just as we use "liters" to measure water, we use "Amperes" to measure current.
Voltage: The Force That Moves Electricity
Why does water flow? Because water at a higher position has potential energy and flows downward. Similarly, why do charges flow? Because there's voltage pushing them!
Voltage is like the power of a water pump. The larger the voltage, the stronger the force pushing charges to flow. The unit of voltage is the Volt, abbreviated as "V."
> > Find a battery (you can see marks like "1.5V" or "3V") and a small light bulb. Connect the bulb to the battery, and you'll see it light up! The voltage from the battery makes the current flow, and the bulb glows!
Resistance: The Opposition to Current Flow
Imagine water flowing through a pipe—the narrower and rougher the pipe, the smaller the water flow. It's the same with electricity! Resistance refers to how much a conducting material opposes the flow of current.
The unit of resistance is the Ohm, represented by the Greek letter Ω. The larger the resistance, the harder it is for current to pass through.
Ohm's Law: The Basic Rule of Electricity
A German physicist named Georg Ohm discovered a very important rule, which we call Ohm's Law. This law tells us the relationship between vol
