欢迎来到量子世界
Welcome to the Quantum World
想象你正站在一片金色的沙滩上,海浪轻轻拍打着你的小脚丫。远处的海鸥在天空中盘旋,阳光下的沙粒闪闪发光。你弯腰抓起一把沙子,看到无数颗细小的沙粒从指缝间滑落。每一颗沙粒都小得几乎看不见,但如果我们有一台超级超级强大的显微镜——比任何你见过的显微镜都要强大一万倍、一百万倍、一万亿倍——我们就能看到沙粒内部的惊人世界。
Imagine standing on a golden beach, waves gently lapping at your feet. Seagulls wheel in the distant sky, and sunlit sand glitters everywhere. You bend down and scoop up a handful of sand, watching countless tiny grains slip through your fingers. Each grain is so small you can barely see it, but what if we had a super-duper powerful microscope—one a trillion times more powerful than any you've ever seen? Then we could peer into the astonishing world inside each grain.
在那里,你不仅能看到原子的结构——原子就像微小的太阳系,中心有一个原子核,周围是绕着它旋转的电子,就像行星绕着太阳转一样。但更神奇的是,当你看得越来越深,越来越仔细的时候,你会发现这个微小世界的规则与我们日常生活的规则完全不同。在量子世界里,足球会表现得像水波一样扩散开来,而你的玩具车可能会同时出现在客厅和卧室——甚至同时出现在所有房间!
There, you'd see the structure of atoms—atoms like tiny solar systems, with a nucleus at the center and electrons orbiting around it, just like planets around the sun. But here's the truly amazing part: as you look deeper and deeper, you'll discover that this microscopic world's rules are completely different from the rules of our everyday life. In the quantum world, a soccer ball would behave like a water wave spreading out, and your toy car might exist in your living room AND your bedroom at the same time—even in ALL rooms simultaneously!
这听起来像是童话故事里的魔法,对吗?但这不是魔法,而是科学!这是一个叫作“量子力学”的神奇领域。量子力学告诉我们,在非常非常微小的世界里——小到我们用肉眼根本看不到——存在着一些令人惊奇的规则。这些规则听起来可能很奇怪,但它们是真实存在的,而且已经被全世界的科学家验证了无数次。
This sounds like magic from a fairy tale, right? But it's not magic—it's science! This is a wonderful field called "quantum mechanics." Quantum mechanics tells us that in the very, very tiny world—so small our eyes can't see it at all—there are some astonishing rules. These rules might sound strange, but they are real, and scientists around the world have verified them countless times.
什么是量子力学?
What is Quantum Mechanics?
量子力学是物理学的一个分支,专门研究非常非常小的粒子在非常非常小的尺度上是如何运动的。让我们先来理解“量子”这个词的意思。
Quantum mechanics is a branch of physics that studies how extremely tiny particles move at extremely tiny scales. Let's first understand what the word "quantum" means.
“量子”的英文是"quantum",这个词来自拉丁语"quantus",意思是“多少”或“数量”。在物理学中,量子指的是一种最小的、不可分割的基本单位。就像我们不能说“半个原子”一样——原子就是物质的最小单位之一,不能再分得更小了。
"Quantum" comes from the Latin word "quantus," meaning "how much" or "quantity." In physics, a quantum refers to the smallest, indivisible basic unit. Just like we can't say "half an atom"—an atom is one of the smallest units of matter and cannot be divided further.
但是,量子力学研究的可不是普通的微小东西。让我们来做个比较:如果把一粒沙子放大到和地球一样大,那么原子只相当于那个放大后的沙粒的百万分之一大小!原子已经这么小了,而量子力学研究的粒子比原子还要小得多——比如电子、光子、夸克等等。这些粒子小到我们几乎无法想象。
But quantum mechanics isn't just about ordinary tiny things. Let's make a comparison: if we enlarged a grain of sand to the size of the Earth, then an atom would be only one-millionth the size of that enlarged sand grain! Atoms are already that small, and the particles quantum mechanics studies are even smaller than atoms—things like electrons, photons, quarks, and more. These particles are so small we can barely imagine them.
量子力学的基本定义可以这样理解:它是描述原子和亚原子(比原子还小)粒子行为规律的理论。在我们的日常生活中,一个物体在某个时刻只能在一个地方——你的书包在书包的位置,不会在其他地方。但量子力学告诉我们,在微观世界里,粒子可以同时存在于多个地方!这听起来很疯狂,但它是真实的。
We can understand the fundamental definition of quantum mechanics as: it is the theory describing how atoms and subatomic (smaller than atoms) particles behave. In our everyday life, an object at any given moment can only be in one place—your backpack is where your backpack is, nowhere else. But quantum mechanics tells us that in the microscopic world, particles can exist in multiple places at the same time! This sounds crazy, but it's real.
量子力学不仅描述这些微小粒子如何运动,它还揭示了一些我们从未见过的奇妙现象。例如,在量子世界里,粒子可以像波一样传播,同时也可以像粒子一样存在;两个相隔很远的粒子可以“心灵感应”般地相互影响;甚至我们的观察本身——仅仅是“看”一个粒子——就能改变它的行为!
Quantum mechanics doesn't just describe how these tiny particles move; it reveals wonderful phenomena we've never seen before. For example, in the quantum world, particles can spread out like waves while also existing like particles; two particles far apart can influence each other as if by "telepathy"; and even our observation itself—just "looking" at a particle—can change its behavior!
这些现象在我们的宏观世界里是不会发生的。你的爸爸妈妈、你的玩具、你的小宠物都不会同时出现在两个地方,也不会有“心灵感应”。但在微观世界里,这些规则完全不适用。这就是为什么量子力学如此特别、如此令人着迷。
These phenomena don't happen in our macroscopic world. Your parents, your toys, your pets can't all exist in two places at once, nor can they have "telepathy." But in the microscopic world, these rules simply don't apply. That's why quantum mechanics is so special, so fascinating.
从巨大到微小:认识尺度世界
From Huge to Tiny: Understanding the Scale World
为了更好地理解量子世界有多小,让我们一起踏上一次从大到小的神奇旅程。我们会用一种特殊的方式来描述大小——科学上叫做“数量级”。
To better understand just how small the quantum world is, let's take a magical journey from big to small together. We'll use a special way to describe sizes—cientists call it "order of magnitude."
想象你正在看一场足球比赛。足球场大约有100米长,这大约是10^2米——也就是1后面跟着2个零。现在,让我们开始缩小。
Imagine you're watching a soccer game. A soccer field is about 100 meters long, which is about 10^2 meters—one followed by two zeros. Now, let's start shrinking.
你手里拿着一个足球。足球的直径大约是22厘米,也就是0.22米,这大约是10^-1米——一后面跟着一个小数点和负一。现在继续缩小。
You hold a soccer ball in your hand. A soccer ball's diameter is about 22 centimeters, or 0.22 meters, which is about 10^-1 meters—one followed by a decimal point and negative one. Continue shrinking.
一根头发的宽度大约是0.07毫米,也就是7×10^-5米。人的眼睛最好能看到大约0.1毫米大小的东西,比这更小的就看不见了,需要借助显微镜。
A human hair's width is about 0.07 millimeters, or 7×10^-5 meters. The human eye can best see objects about 0.1 millimeters in size; anything smaller requires a microscope.
一个细菌大约是几微米大小,也就是10^-6米。细菌很小,但它们是有生命的!它们可以吃东西、生长、分裂。
A bacterium is about several micrometers in size, or 10^-6 meters. Bacteria are small, but they're alive! They can eat, grow, and divide.
现在让我们进入更微小的世界。病毒大约是细菌的百分之一大小,大约是100纳米,也就是10^-7米。病毒没有细胞结构,它们只能依赖其他生物才能存活和繁殖。
Now let's enter an even tinier world. Viruses are about a hundredth the size of bacteria, about 100 nanometers, or 10^-7 meters. Viruses don't have cellular structure; they can only survive and reproduce by depending on other organisms.
一个蛋白质分子大约是5纳米大小,大约是5×10^-9米。蛋白质是我们身体的重要组成部分,它们帮助我们消化食物、抵抗疾病、移动身体。
A protein molecule is about 5 nanometers in size, about 5×10^-9 meters. Proteins are important components of our bodies; they help us digest food, fight disease, and move our bodies.
DNA的双螺旋结构直径大约是2纳米。DNA携带了我们的遗传信息,决定了我们是谁——我们的眼睛是什么颜色、我们能长多高等等。
The double helix structure of DNA is about 2 nanometers in diameter. DNA carries our genetic information, determining who we are—the color of our eyes, how tall we can grow, and more.
现在我们越来越接近原子的大小了。一个水分子的直径大约是0.3纳米,也就是3×10^-10米。水是由两个氢原子和一个氧原子组成的——H₂O。
Now we're getting closer to the size of atoms. A water molecule's diameter is about 0.3 nanometers, or 3×10^-10 meters. Water is made of two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom—H₂O.
原子的大小大约是0.1到0.5纳米。想象一下,如果把原子放大到一颗弹珠那么大,那么按照同样的比例,你就会被放大到和地球一样大!
Atoms are about 0.1 to 0.5 nanometers in size. Imagine if we enlarged an atom to the size of a marble; at the same scale, you would be enlarged to the size of the Earth!
原子核比原子还要小100,000倍!原子核的直径大约是10^-15米。原子核里面住着质子和中子。
The atomic nucleus is 100,000 times smaller than the atom! An atomic nucleus's diameter is about 10^-15 meters. Inside the nucleus live protons and neutrons.
质子和中子又是由更小的粒子——夸克组成的。夸克是目前已知的最基本的粒子之一,大小小于10^-18米。
Protons and neutrons are made of even smaller particles—quarks. Quarks are among the most fundamental particles known, smaller than 10^-18 meters.
让我们用下面这个图表来更清楚地看看这个从大到小的旅程:
