On a sunny weekend morning, eight-year-old Lily went to a lake in the forest with her parents. The lake was like a huge mirror, reflecting the blue sky, white clouds, and surrounding trees in its embrace. When the breeze blew across the water, ripples appeared, and those reflections danced along gently, like performing an elegant dance.
莉莉蹲在湖边，看得出神。她想：“这么美的景色，要是我能把它永远留住就好了。可是等太阳下山、云朵飘走，这些美好的画面就会消失不见……”
Lily crouched by the lake, completely absorbed in the view. She thought, "Such beautiful scenery, if only I could keep it forever. But when the sun sets and the clouds drift away, these wonderful scenes will disappear..."
就在这时，一只小松鼠从树枝上跳了下来，捧着一颗亮晶晶的橡果，好奇地看着莉莉。莉莉刚想伸手去摸，小松鼠就像一阵风一样窜走了，只留下一片轻轻晃动的树叶。
Just then, a little squirrel jumped down from a branch, holding a shiny acorn, and looked at Lily curiously. When Lily reached out to pet it, the squirrel darted away like the wind, leaving only a gently swaying leaf behind.
“哎呀！”莉莉失望地叫了一声，“我还没来得及好好看看它呢！”
"Ah!" Lily exclaimed in disappointment, "I didn't get a good look at it!"

Lily's eyes immediately lit up: "Really? A magic box? Where is it? I want to see it!"

Mom took out a small, square-shaped thing from her backpack and said, "This is it! We call it a 'camera,' and it's one of the most magical tools humans have ever invented."
莉莉接过那个“魔法盒子”，仔细端详着。她发现盒子上有一个圆圆的“眼睛”，就像一个放大镜，可以看到很远的地方。盒子上面还有几个按钮，有红色的，有白色的，还有一个绿色的小按钮写着“OK”。
Lily took the "magic box," examining it carefully. She noticed it had a round "eye," like a magnifying glass that could see far away. On the box were several buttons—red ones, white ones, and a little green button marked "OK."

"Mom, what can this eye see?" Lily asked curiously.

"It can see anything you want to look at," Mom said, "Come, let me teach you how to use this magic box."

Mom held Lily's hand gently, aimed the camera at the lake surface, then let Lily's index finger press on the red button.
“准备好了吗？现在轻轻按下去！”
"Ready? Now press down gently!"
莉莉屏住呼吸，轻轻按下了按钮。只听见“咔嚓”一声，相机似乎眨了一下眼睛！
Lily held her breath and pressed down gently. She heard a soft "click," and the camera seemed to blink its eye!
妈妈笑着说：“好了！你已经用魔法盒子'抓住'了一个美好的瞬间！现在让我们看看你抓到了什么。”
Mom笑着说："好了！你已经用魔法盒子'抓住'了一个美好的瞬间！现在让我们看看你抓到了什么。"
妈妈按了几个按钮，相机的背面突然亮了起来，屏幕上出现了刚才的湖面——蓝蓝的天空、白白的云朵、倒映在水中的大树，全都清清楚楚地显示在上面！
Mom pressed a few buttons, and the back of the camera lit up. On the screen appeared the lake she had just photographed—the blue sky, white clouds, and trees reflected in the water—all displayed clearly!
“天哪！”莉莉惊叹道，“这真的是刚才的湖！一模一样！太神奇了！”
"Oh my!" Lily exclaimed, "This is really the lake from just now! Exactly the same! How magical!"

From that day on, Lily fell in love with this magical "magic box." She began photographing everything she thought was beautiful: butterflies in the garden, dandelions on the lawn, grandma's baked cakes, grandpa reading the newspaper in his rocking chair... Each photograph was like a little window with magic cast on it, forever freezing time.

You may have seen many of these "magic boxes" in everyday life—they might be your parents' phones, grandparents' tablets, or dedicated cameras for taking pictures. Actually, all of these are different "avatars" of the camera!

🔮 摄影的魔法 | The Magic of Photography
摄影（Photography）这个词，看起来好像很复杂，其实它是由两个古老的词语组成的：
The word Photography might seem complicated, but it's actually made up of two ancient words:
- **Photo** 来自希腊语，意思是“光”（light）
- **Graphy** 也来自希腊语，意思是“画”或“书写”（drawing or writing）
所以“摄影”的意思就是“用光来画画”或者“用光线书写”！
So "Photography" means "drawing with light" or "writing with light"!
想象一下，如果没有光，我们什么都看不见。太阳公公发出的光、月亮姐姐反射的光、灯泡发出的光、还有手机屏幕发出的光……所有的光都会照亮我们的世界，让我们能够看到五颜六色的东西。
Imagine if there were no light—we couldn't see anything. The light from the sun, the light reflected by the moon, light from light bulbs, and light from phone screens... all kinds of light illuminate our world, allowing us to see all kinds of colorful things.
而相机这个魔法盒子，就像是一个特别会“收集光”的小精灵。它有一个圆圆的眼睛（我们叫它镜头，就像相机的“大眼睛”），这个大眼睛可以收集来自各种东西的光——天空的蓝、树叶的绿、花儿的红、夕阳的金黄……然后把这些光的颜色和形状全部记录下来，变成一张张美丽的照片。
The camera, this magic box, is like a little elf that's particularly good at "collecting light." It has a round eye (we call it the lens, like the camera's "big eye") that can collect light from all kinds of things—the blue of the sky, the green of leaves, the red of flowers, the golden glow of sunset... then record all these colors and shapes of light into beautiful photographs.

When you pick up a camera to take a picture, you're actually performing a wonderful dance between light and shadow!
想象一下，早晨太阳刚升起的时候，阳光斜斜地照在大地上，所有的影子都长长的，像是在跟你玩“躲猫猫”的游戏。中午的时候，太阳在头顶正上方，影子变得短短的、圆圆的。傍晚时分，夕阳把天空染成橙色和红色，这时候拍出来的照片总是特别温暖、特别漂亮。
Imagine this: when the sun rises in the morning, sunlight shines diagonally across the land, and all shadows are long, like playing hide-and-seek with you. At noon, when the sun is directly overhead, shadows become short and round. In the evening, the setting sun paints the sky orange and red—this is when photographs always turn out especially warm and beautiful.
摄影师们（就是那些很会拍照的人）特别喜欢在日出和日落的时候拍照，因为这两个时间段的光线最柔和、最有魔力！不过，就算是正午的大太阳下，也有属于它的独特魅力——阳光会把所有的颜色都变得特别鲜艳！
Photographers (people who are really good at taking pictures) especially love taking photos during sunrise and sunset because the light during these two periods is the softest and most magical! However, even under the bright midday sun, there's its own unique charm—sunlight makes all colors especially vivid!
莉莉后来学到，原来摄影就是捕捉光的故事。每一张照片里，都记录着光的形状、颜色和故事。当她拍下湖面时，相机记录的是阳光照在湖面上的样子；当她拍下小松鼠时，相机记录的是阳光照在小松鼠毛茸茸的身体上的样子。光，就像一位神奇的画家，每天都在世界上画着不同的画。而摄影师，就是学会用相机把这些光之画“复制”下来的人。
Lily later learned that photography is about capturing stories of light. In every photograph, the shape, color, and story of light are recorded. When she photographed the lake, the camera recorded how sunlight looked on the lake surface. When she photographed the squirrel, the camera recorded how sunlight looked on its fluffy body. Light is like a magical painter, painting different pictures on the world every day. And photographers are people who learn to "copy" these paintings of light using a camera.
