In the early morning, sunlight spread across the streets of Smart Town, and dewdrops sparkled on freshly bloomed flowers. In the distance, an autonomous cleaning vehicle slowly drove along the street, gently sweeping away the fallen leaves from the night. Smart streetlights automatically adjusted their brightness according to the light, conserving every bit of energy. The air monitoring station worked silently, reporting air quality indices in real-time.
一辆自动驾驶的搬家货车稳稳地停在了一栋整洁的白色房子前。车门打开，一个戴着蓝色棒球帽的小男孩跳了下来。他的眼睛又大又亮，背上背着一个印满星星图案的书包，书包里鼓鼓囊囊地塞满了他最心爱的科学实验工具。
An autonomous moving truck stopped steadily in front of a tidy white house. The door opened, and a little boy wearing a blue baseball cap jumped out. His eyes were big and bright, and on his back was a schoolbag covered with star patterns, bulging with his beloved science experiment tools.
“小明！快来帮忙搬箱子！”妈妈在身后喊道。
"Xiaoming! Come help carry the boxes!" his mother called from behind.
这个充满好奇心的小男孩就是小明，今年十岁。他和爸爸妈妈一起搬到了这个新建成的智能小镇。听说这里到处都是神奇的人工智能设备，小明兴奋得整夜都没睡好。
This curious little boy was Xiaoming, ten years old this year. He and his parents had moved to this newly built Smart Town. He'd heard that there were magical artificial intelligence devices everywhere, and Xiaoming was so excited he couldn't sleep well the whole night before.
小明跳下货车，正准备跑向新家，忽然听到头顶传来一阵清脆的声音：
Xiaoming jumped off the truck and was about to run toward the new house when he suddenly heard a clear voice from above:
“欢迎来到智能小镇，新来的小朋友！”
"Welcome to Smart Town, new little friend!"
小明猛地抬起头，只见一只翠绿色的鹦鹉正站在门口的智能监控杆上，用一双乌溜溜的眼睛好奇地盯着他。这只鹦鹉的羽毛在阳光下闪闪发亮，脖子上还戴着一个精致的小银环。
Xiaoming looked up sharply, and there on the smart monitoring pole by the door sat a bright green parrot, curiously staring at him with jet-black eyes. The parrot's feathers sparkled in the sunlight, and around its neck was an exquisite little silver ring.
“你、你会说话？”小明惊讶得差点咬到舌头。
"You—you can talk?" Xiaoming was so surprised he almost bit his tongue.
鹦鹉扑棱着翅膀飞了下来，稳稳地落在小明面前的邮箱上。它歪着脑袋，自豪地挺起胸膛：
The parrot fluttered its wings and flew down, landing steadily on the mailbox in front of Xiaoming. It tilted its head and proudly puffed out its chest:
“当然啦！我叫小翠，是这个智能小镇的迎宾鹦鹉！我的大脑里装着一颗聪明的人工智能芯片，能听懂你说话，还能和你聊天呢！”
"Of course! My name is Xiao Cui, the welcome parrot of Smart Town! There's a clever artificial intelligence chip in my brain. I can understand what you say and chat with you!"
“人工智能？”小明把这个新词重复了一遍，“那是什么神奇的东西呀？”
"Artificial intelligence?" Xiaoming repeated this new term. "What's that magical thing?"
小翠正要回答，忽然它的眼睛闪了几下，声音变得有些奇怪：
Just as Xiao Cui was about to answer, its eyes flickered a few times, and its voice became somewhat strange:
“小明，你知道吗？今天天气很好，我们应该去吃——吃——吃草！”
"Xiaoming, you know what? The weather is nice today, we should go eat—eat—eat grass!"
小明噗嗤一声笑了出来：“小翠，你刚才是不是哪里卡住了？吃草是动物才做的事情呀！”
Xiaoming burst out laughing: "Xiao Cui, did you just glitch? Eating grass is something only animals do!"
小翠的眼睛又闪了几下，声音恢复了正常：“哎呀，说错了说错了！我刚才的意思是，今天天气很好，我们应该去公园散步！我脑袋里的人工智能有时候会犯点小迷糊，就像你们小朋友偶尔也会说错话一样。”
Xiao Cui's eyes flickered again, and its voice returned to normal: "Oh dear, I got that wrong! What I meant was, the weather is nice today, we should go for a walk in the park! The artificial intelligence in my head sometimes gets a little confused, just like you kids occasionally say the wrong thing too."

"Mom," Xiaoming couldn't help but ask, "what does 'artificial intelligence' mean? Why does it make mistakes?"
妈妈放下手中的书，坐到小明身边，温柔地说：“你问得真好！让我们先从一个问题开始——你觉得小翠和你之前见过的普通鹦鹉有什么不一样吗？”
His mother put down her book, sat next to Xiaoming, and gently said: "That's a great question! Let me start with a question—how is Xiao Cui different from ordinary parrots you've seen before?"
小明想了想：“普通鹦鹉只会学人说话，但是小翠好像能理解我说的话，还能回答问题！”

“完全正确！”妈妈的眼睛亮了起来，“这就是人工智能的神奇之处。人工智能，简称AI（Artificial Intelligence），就是让机器具有像人一样思考和学习的能力。”
"Exactly right!" His mother's eyes lit up. "That's the magic of artificial intelligence. Artificial Intelligence, abbreviated as AI, means giving machines the ability to think and learn like humans."
妈妈拿出一张白纸，在上面画了起来：

“你看，如果把普通鹦鹉比作一个只会模仿的录音机，你说什么它就重复什么。但小翠不一样——它的大脑里有一颗特殊的芯片，就像一本超级百科全书加上一个聪明的小脑袋。它能听懂你说的话，理解你的意思，然后从它学过的知识里找出最好的回答。”
"Look, if we compare an ordinary parrot to a tape recorder that only mimics, you say something and it repeats it. But Xiao Cui is different—it has a special chip in its brain, like a super encyclopedia plus a clever little head. It can understand what you say, grasp your meaning, and then find the best answer from the knowledge it has learned."
小明兴奋地拍手：“所以AI就是让机器变聪明的方法！”
Xiaoming clapped excitedly: "So AI is a way to make machines smart!"
“没错，”妈妈点点头，“但是请注意——我们说的是'像'人类一样思考和学习，并不是说AI真的和人类一模一样。AI能做好多人类做不到的事情，比如同时处理成千上万的信息；但它也有很多局限，就像小翠刚才说的'吃草'那样，偶尔会犯一些人类不会犯的错误。”
"That's right," his mother nodded, "but please note—we said 'like' humans, not that AI is truly identical to humans. AI can do many things humans can't, like processing thousands of pieces of information at once; but it also has many limitations, like Xiao Cui saying 'eat grass' just now, occasionally making mistakes humans wouldn't make."
这时，客厅里的智能音箱忽然“滴”地响了一声，用清脆的声音说道：
Just then, the smart speaker in the living room suddenly went "beep" and said in a clear voice:
“检测到新用户入住！智能家居系统已自动配置完成。请问需要我播放轻松的音乐帮助你们整理房间吗？”
"New user arrival detected! Smart home system has been automatically configured. Would you like me to play some relaxing music to help you unpack?"
小明惊奇地看着那个小小的圆柱形设备：“它怎么会知道我们搬进来了？”
Xiaoming stared in amazement at that small cylindrical device: "How does it know we just moved in?"
妈妈笑着解释：“这就是AI的另一个厉害之处——感知能力。小明的智能手表发送了你的位置信息，智能门锁记录了开门时间，系统把这些信息综合起来，就知道你刚刚到达了。”
His mother explained with a smile: "That's another amazing thing about AI—the ability to perceive. Your smartwatch sent your location information, the smart door lock recorded the time you opened the door, and the system combined all this information to know you'd just arrived."
小明恍然大悟：“原来AI是这样工作的呀！它会'看'、会'听'、会'感觉'，然后像小脑袋一样思考，最后做出反应！”
Xiaoming suddenly understood: "So that's how AI works! It can 'see,' 'hear,' and 'feel,' then think with a little brain, and finally make a response!"

"Come on, I'll take you to see the town's famous spots!" His dad winked mysteriously.

They first arrived at the Smart Square in the town center. A massive electronic screen stood there, displaying the town's real-time map, population density, weather information, and various other data.
“哇！”小明仰着头，眼睛里闪着光，“这好像科幻电影里的控制中心！”
"Wow!" Xiaoming tilted his head back, eyes sparkling. "This looks like the command center from a sci-fi movie!"
一位穿着橙色工作服的叔叔走了过来，他胸前佩戴着一枚徽章，上面写着“智慧城市管理员”。
A man in an orange work uniform walked over, with a badge on his chest that read "Smart City Administrator."

"Welcome to Smart Town, little friend!" the uncle greeted
