Ah-Ming's morning began like any other Wednesday. Sunlight filtered through the curtains, dancing into his room like a golden kitten. He rubbed his sleepy eyes and dragged himself out of bed, just as he did every morning.
"Ding-ding-ding!" The alarm clock sang its morning song, as if saying: "Wake up, wake up! A brand new day has begun!"
Ah-Ming stretched his arms wide, then shuffled to the bathroom to wash up before heading to the kitchen for breakfast. On the table sat the eggs, toast, and warm glass of milk his mom had prepared. Everything was as ordinary as could be.
Just as Ah-Ming was about to grab his backpack and head out, he noticed something on his desk—the pencil case. He'd been using it for ages, but this morning, it seemed somehow different.
Discover the Secret on the Pencil Case
Ah-Ming picked up the pencil case and examined it closely. The case was blue with a cute cartoon dinosaur on it. He'd been using it every single day, yet he'd never really looked at it carefully before.
But today, he noticed that besides the dinosaur, there were all sorts of strange symbols and words on the case!
"Uh-oh? What's this?" Ah-Ming pointed to a row of little tadpole-like squiggles on the case.
He leaned in closer and realized those "tadpoles" were actually letters he didn't recognize, arranged together like little pictures.
"That's English," his mom walked over and explained with a smile. "It says the brand name of this pencil case."
"Brand name?" Ah-Ming tilted his little head, puzzled. "What's a brand name?"
His mom sat down and gently patted his head. "A brand name is like a name that a product gives itself. Just like you're called Ah-Ming, and a puppy might be called Wangcai, products also need names so people can remember them."
Ah-Ming nodded slowly, as if beginning to understand. His eyes continued searching across the pencil case.
"Mom, look! There are so many pictures and little words here!" Ah-Ming exclaimed.
Indeed, besides that row of English, the pencil case had all kinds of little symbols: some looked like stars, some like rainbows, others like fruits and ice cream. Each picture had tiny words beside it.
"What are all these?" Ah-Ming asked curiously.
His mom laughed. "These are all different brand names. The company that makes this pencil case has this name, the designers who created the pictures have their own names, and these are..."
His mom patiently explained. So on an ordinary pencil case, there were actually so many names hidden! Ah-Ming thought it was absolutely magical.
A Curious Question Sprouts in His Heart
Walking to school, Ah-Ming kicked small pebbles along the road, still thinking about what he'd discovered that morning.
He thought about all the things at home: the TV in the living room was "Hisense," the fridge was "Haier"; in the kitchen, the soy sauce was "Haitian," the vinegar was "Hengshun"; his snacks included "Little Raccoon" instant noodles, "Oreos," and "Wahaha" yogurt...
"My goodness!" Ah-Ming said to himself in amazement. "There are so many names around us!"
But then, another question popped into his mind—a question that made him furrow his brow.
"Mom said brand names are so people can remember them," Ah-Ming mumbled to himself, "but why is it that some names I remember right away—like 'Oreo' and 'Wahaha'—I've never even tried Wahaha, but I've known that name forever! Yet some other names, even though I've seen them lots of times, I still can't remember?"
This question was like a tiny seed, quietly planted in Ah-Ming's heart.
He continued walking, passing by a stationery shop. The display window was filled with colorful school supplies, each one printed with all sorts of different names.
Ah-Ming stopped and carefully studied those names. He noticed that some names looked fun and made you want to look twice; others looked ordinary and slipped right out of your mind after seeing them.
"Why is the difference so huge?" Ah-Ming scratched his head. "If we could give these names scores, some would definitely get 100 points, while others might not even reach 60!"
With this question in mind, Ah-Ming walked into school. During class, he was a bit distracted, constantly thinking about the name question.
"Ring-ring—" The class bell rang.
Ah-Ming's best friend Fatty ran over and slapped his shoulder. "Ah-Ming, wanna go play on the playground!"
Ah-Ming was about to answer when he noticed something strange on the classroom windowsill—a mysterious envelope that glowed with a soft blue light!
"This letter... how strange!" Ah-Ming exclaimed.
Fatty looked in the direction Ah-Ming was pointing but saw nothing. "What letter? What are you talking about?"
Ah-Ming rubbed his eyes and looked again—the letter was still there, twinkling with that mysterious blue light.
"It's right there! Can't you see it?" Ah-Ming said urgently.
Fatty shook his head, looking completely confused. "Ah-Ming, did you not sleep well? There's no letter at all!"
Ah-Ming felt a little scared but couldn't resist walking toward the windowsill. He reached out his hand and touched the letter—
The moment his fingers touched the envelope, a warm energy burst forth from it and wrapped around him.
The Mysterious Letter
Ah-Ming felt like he was being lifted by a gentle breeze. The world before him began to blur. He heard a clear, crisp voice—like wind chimes, pleasant and melodious.
"Dear Ah-Ming," the voice said. "Welcome to the Call of Name Planet. I am Word Elf Xiao-Yu, and I'm honored to invite you to visit our world."
Ah-Ming opened his eyes and found himself no longer in the classroom. He stood at the edge of a magical forest where the trees were colorful and their leaves shimmered with different lights. The air was filled with a sweet fragrance, and everywhere there were glowing butterflies and fireflies that looked like little stars.
"Wow! Where am I?" Ah-Ming's eyes grew wide.
"Where did that voice come from?" Ah-Ming look
