Crisis, in the adult world, has a very special name. Crisis means those things that happen suddenly and make people feel worried and in difficulty.
No, it's not just bad luck. In fact, "crisis" and "bad luck" are not quite the same! Bad luck usually means having poor fortune, like tripping while walking or losing a beloved little toy. But what about a crisis? A crisis tends to be more complex, affecting many people or suddenly making a previously good plan very difficult to complete.
Let’s look at Lele's situation again:
Everything was fine with the cookie shop in the morning, but suddenly there were problems — this is the first characteristic of a crisis.
The first characteristic is Suddenness: A crisis always happens suddenly when we're not prepared. Lele and his mother had prepared for three months, but they still encountered various unexpected situations on the first day of opening. No one expected the oven to break, and no one expected the honey to run out.
This morning, Lele's mother said to Lele, "The weather is so nice today, there will definitely be many customers coming!" But no one expected the preparations to have problems.
Suddenly, your backpack is full of snacks and toys as you happily prepare for a spring outing. But it rains heavily the next morning, and the spring outing is cancelled. This is suddenness — the weather forecast might not have said it would rain, but rain came exactly on the day of the spring outing.
The second characteristic is Uncertainty: When a crisis happens, we often don't know what will happen next. When Lele's oven suddenly stopped working, he didn't know how long it would take to fix. When the rainbow cookies that Nini wanted couldn't be made, Lele didn't know what to do either.
Sometimes, a crisis is like fog — we can't see what's ahead clearly. Just like when you play hide and seek, you don't know where the other kids will hide; when a crisis happens, we don't know if things will get better or worse.
他不知道白白会不会因为这件事以后再也不来了,不知道跳跳会不会告诉其他小动物说他的饼干太甜了,不知道妮妮会不会失望地离开……Little Bunny Baibai cried after eating the too-sweet cookies, which made Lele even more flustered. He didn't know if Baibai would never come again because of this, whether Tiaotiao would tell other little animals that his cookies were too sweet, or whether Nini would leave disappointed...
The third characteristic is Urgency: A crisis usually requires decisions or actions to be taken within a very short time.
If Lele doesn't quickly figure out what to do, Baibai might cry even harder, Nini might not wait and leave, and the customers behind might also be disappointed.
Urgency is like having a little alarm clock "tick-tock" in your head. 没有太多时间了!"It's reminding you: "Hurry up! Hurry up! There isn't much time!"
Think about it — if your good friend suddenly gets sick and needs to go to the hospital, do you have to quickly figure out how to call an adult, take a taxi, or send them to the hospital? That's urgency.
These three characteristics — suddenness, uncertainty, and urgency — are like the three corners of a crisis.
Crisis Triangle
| 角 Corner | 特点 Feature | 乐乐遇到的事 What happened to Lele | |-----------|--------------|-----------------------------------| | 角1 Corner 1 | 突发性 Suddenness | 烤箱突然坏了、蜂蜜不够 The oven suddenly broke, and the honey ran short | | 角2 Corner 2 | 不确定性 Uncertainty | 不知道烤箱什么时候能修好、不知道白白还会不会哭 Doesn't know when the oven can be fixed, doesn't know if Baibai will stop crying | | 角3 Corner 3 | 紧迫性 Urgency | 必须马上想办法,不然顾客都会走掉 Must figure out a solution immediately, otherwise all the customers will leave |
Let's look more closely at Lele's cookie shop and see if these all match the three corners of the Crisis Triangle:
Lele and his mother didn't know the oven would break when they woke up in the morning, right? That's suddenness.
After the oven broke, they didn't know how long it would take to fix, didn't know if Baibai would keep crying, didn't know if Nini could wait — these are all uncertainties.
But just then, there were already customers waiting at the door; if they didn't quickly figure out a solution, everyone might leave disappointed — that's urgency.
Crisis means those things that happen suddenly and make people feel worried and in difficulty. A crisis has three corners: suddenness, uncertainty, and urgency. When these three corners come together, that's when we say "a crisis has occurred."
However, dear little readers, don't be too afraid of crises! Although crises sound scary, we actually encounter small crises every day. What's important is that we learn to recognize them and then figure out how to solve them.
Well, what happened to Lele's cookie shop later?
Lele, what's going on? Mom walked out from the front hall, saw Baibai crying, saw Nini looking a bit anxious, saw Tiaotiao scratching his head.
Mom, is the oven still not fixed? Lele's voice trembled a little.
Mom looked at the situation, didn't panic, but gently patted Lele's shoulder: "It's okay, let's figure out a solution together."
Mom walked up to Baibai first, squatted down and asked: Baibai, are you okay? Tell auntie, were the cookies too sweet?
Baibai sniffled and said: Y...yes, my... my teeth aren't good...
Shall auntie pour you a glass of warm water? Let's rinse our mouths first, and then auntie will make you a less sweet cookie, okay? Mom said gently.
Baibai's crying gradually quieted down.
