In the deep night sky, a grand painting woven from countless points of light hangs above us. When we lift our heads, the first thing that meets our eyes is the bright moon, quietly guarding Earth and never leaving for billions of years. However, the moon is not the main character of this starry sky—behind it, a more brilliant star is burning, and that is our Sun. The Sun is the undisputed leader of the solar system, with its enormous mass and gravity firmly holding the surrounding celestial bodies, forming a vast interstellar family.
This family is called the Solar System. In ancient Greek, "solar" means "sun," and "system" means "order" or "arrangement." As the name suggests, the Solar System is a celestial system with the Sun at its center and all celestial bodies orbiting around it. In this system, besides the eight familiar planets, there are also their moons, countless asteroids, comets, as well as dust and gas scattered throughout interstellar space. The Sun's mass accounts for more than 99% of the total mass of the entire Solar System, so we can say that without the Sun, there would be nothing in the Solar System.
Astronomers arrange the members of the Solar System from inside to outside according to their distance from the Sun: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Before 2006, Pluto was always classified as the ninth planet in the Solar System, but the International Astronomical Union redefined the criteria for planet classification, and Pluto was reclassified as a "Dwarf Planet" because it has not cleared the neighborhood around its orbit. Nevertheless, Pluto still orbits at the edge of the Solar System and remains an indispensable member of the Solar System family.
Now, let us embark on this interstellar journey and get to know every "family member" in the Solar System. We will discover that each planet has its own unique personality and story, just like classmates in a class—different from one another yet together forming this wonderful cosmic family.

The Sun: The Warm and Powerful Family Leader
Let us begin our journey from the heart of the Solar System—the Sun. The Sun is a giant ball of gas, mainly composed of hydrogen and helium. Its diameter is about 1.39 million kilometers, 109 times that of Earth; its mass is 330,000 times that of Earth and accounts for more than 99% of the total mass of the Solar System. The core temperature of the Sun reaches as high as 15 million degrees Celsius, where hydrogen atoms continuously fuse into helium atoms, releasing enormous energy. This energy travels through space in the form of light and heat, providing all the light and warmth that life on Earth needs.
If we compare the Sun to a class, then the Sun is the most respected teacher and class president. It not only possesses the most powerful abilities but also illuminates every corner with its light, allowing all the "classmates"—the planets—to shine in their own positions. The Sun's surface temperature is about 5,500 degrees Celsius, while the corona—the outermost layer of the Sun's atmosphere—has a temperature of several million degrees. This strange phenomenon remains an important topic for astronomers to study.
In ancient mythology, the Sun was given a supreme status. Ancient Egyptians worshipped the sun god Ra, ancient Greeks revered the sun god Apollo, and in ancient Chinese legends, there was Hou Yi shooting down suns and Kua Fu chasing the Sun. Different cultures expressed their awe and love for the Sun in different ways, and these stories have become precious cultural heritages of human civilization.

The Moon: The Gentle Guardian in the Night Sky
Leaving the Sun, let us turn our gaze to Earth's nearest neighbor—the Moon. In the Solar System, the Moon is not the most special satellite, as many planets have their own moons. However, for humans living on Earth, the Moon holds extraordinary significance. It is the brightest celestial body in the night sky, the source of poets' inspiration, the protagonist of countless legends, and the only extraterrestrial world humans have ever set foot on.
The Moon orbits Earth at an average distance of about 384,000 kilometers. This distance seems far, but if we shrink the Solar System to the size of a football field, the distance between Earth and the Moon would be no thicker than a coin. The Moon takes about 27.3 days to orbit Earth once, a period called the Sidereal Month. However, the cycle of lunar phases we observe is about 29.5 days because the Moon and Earth are simultaneously orbiting the Sun.
The Moon's diameter is about 3,476 kilometers, a quarter of Earth's diameter; its mass is about one-eighty-first of Earth's. This means the Moon's gravity is only one-sixth of Earth's gravity. If you weigh 60 kilograms on Earth, you would only weigh 10 kilograms on the Moon! This is also why astronauts can jump easily on the Moon.
In astronomy, the Moon represents our inner emotional world. It symbolizes our intuition, memory, and subconscious. In astrology, the Moon is closely connected to our emotional responses, inner needs, and sense of security. A person's Moon sign often reveals their most authentic emotional needs and internal response patterns.

Mercury: The Youngest and Fastest Energetic Youth
Now, let us journey to the planet closest to the Sun—Mercury. Mercury is the smallest planet in the Solar System, with a diameter of only 4,878 kilometers, even smaller than Jupiter's moon Ganymede and Saturn's moon Titan. Its English name Mercury comes from the Roman messenger god Mercury, who was known for speed and agility—a name that perfectly describes Mercury's characteristics.
Mercury moves very quickly; it takes only 88 Earth days to orbit the Sun once. This means Mercury's year is much shorter than a year on Earth. However, Mercury takes 59 Earth days to rotate once on its axis, so a day on Mercury is almost equal to two years! In astrology, this contrast between "slo
