Chapter 1: Lily's Curious Question
---
The autumn sunset painted the entire park in a warm orange glow. A gentle breeze drifted through the plane trees, brushing softly against Lily's cheeks. Holding her grandmother's hand, Lily walked along a path covered with fallen leaves. She wore a pink dress with two small braids, her bright eyes sparkling like dark grapes that could speak. Lily was seven years old — a girl full of curiosity about the world. She wanted to know why ants march in a line, why the moon is sometimes round and sometimes curved, and… well, she had way too many questions to count.
Just as they passed the pavilion in the center of the park, Lily suddenly stopped walking. She saw a familiar figure — it was Aunt Li who lived in the next building. Aunt Li's belly was round and full, and she walked slowly, one hand on her hip and the other gently cradling her tummy. Lily opened her eyes wide and stared at Aunt Li's bulging belly.
"Grandma, is Aunt Li hiding a big watermelon in her tummy?" Lily asked in a small voice, tilting her head. "Why is her belly so big?"
Grandma didn't answer right away. Looking into Lily's eyes full of questions, she smiled gently and squatted down so her gaze was level with Lily's.
"Lily, do you want to know what's inside Aunt Li's belly?" Grandma asked.
Lily nodded vigorously, her braids bouncing up and down. "Yes! I want to know!"
Grandma took Lily's hand and pointed at the chrysanthemums blooming in the garden beside the park. "Do you know how those chrysanthemums grow?"
Lily thought for a moment. "They grow from seeds! Mommy plants flowers on the balcony. She buries tiny seeds in the soil, waters them, and the seeds sprout, grow into small seedlings, and then bloom into pretty flowers."

I. The Question That Keeps a Little Mind Spinning
On the way home, Lily kept thinking about the "secret" inside Aunt Li's belly. She asked several questions along the way:
"Grandma, is there a big seed inside Aunt Li's belly too?"
"Then why is her 'seed' so big?"
"When will the 'little flower' inside her belly bloom?"
Listening to Lily's string of questions, Grandma knew in her heart: Lily was going through a "question moment" that every child experiences. This is a very important stage in a child's growth — they begin to realize that they "come from" somewhere, and start to become aware of the origin of life. This is not something to be embarrassed about, nor something to avoid; it is the beginning of wisdom.
Grandma thought back to how her own mother — Lily's great-grandmother — had answered similar questions. Back then, great-grandmother's face would turn red, and she'd wave her hand saying, "Go away, children shouldn't ask such questions." As a result, Grandma's curiosity was not satisfied; instead, it became even stronger. Later, when she became a mother herself and then a grandmother, she secretly vowed never to close the door of exploration for a child with a simple "children shouldn't ask."
So when Lily sat on the sofa, raised her little face, and earnestly asked that classic question, Grandma was already prepared.
"Grandma, where did I really come from?" Lily asked. "Was I really picked up from the forest like Little Red Riding Hood? Or like Xiao Lü, was I found in a trash pile?" (It turned out Lily had already heard those strange "versions" from fairy tales, but her eyes told us she didn't really believe any of them.)
Grandma didn't laugh, nor did she look embarrassed. She pulled Lily close, sat her down, and gently held both of her small hands.
"Lily, thank you for being willing to ask Grandma this question," Grandma said seriously. "This is a very important question, and also a very beautiful one. Grandma is going to answer you carefully. But before I tell you, I want to hear from you first — what do you think, where did you come from?"
Lily tilted her head and thought for a while, then came up with a string of her own "theories":
"Did Mommy and Daddy pick me out at the supermarket when buying a baby?"
"Did a doctor put a baby inside Mommy's belly?"
"Or did I fly down from the sky like a little angel?"
Grandma listened carefully to each one and then nodded: "Your ideas are all lovely! But the real answer is even more magical than you imagined."

II. The Amazing Journey That Begins with a Flower
Grandma picked up a piece of white paper from the coffee table, and chose a red colored pencil from the pencil case. She signaled Lily to take a green one.
"Lily, let's draw a flower together, shall we?"
Lily loved drawing most of all and immediately nodded: "Yes, yes!"
Grandma first drew a round flower center on the paper, and then drew petals around it. Lily took the pencil, drew the stem below the flower center, and drew two green leaves on either side of the stem.
"Lily, do you know where flowers grow from?" Grandma asked.
"I know! From seeds!" Lily said proudly. "Seeds are buried in the soil, they drink rainwater, the sunshine warms them, and slowly they sprout."
"Very clever!" Grandma praised. "Now think — do humans have 'little seeds' like that?"
Lily's expression became very serious. Her brows furrowed slightly, like an elementary student thinking through a math problem. After a long while, she shook her head and said: "I don't know. It seems like humans don't have seeds, do we? We can't be buried in the soil and watered."
Grandma laughed: "Right, humans can't be buried in soil. But inside the human body, there really is a very special kind of 'little seed,' except this kind of seed needs both mommy and daddy to prepare it together."
"What little seed?" Lily's curiosity was ignited.
Grandma drew two little figures on the paper, one a bit larger, one a bit smaller. Next to the larger one she wrote "Daddy," next to the smaller one "Mommy." Then between the two little figures, she drew a small heart.
"Lily, do you know how Mommy and Daddy met?" Grandma asked.
Lily nodded: "I know! They were cla
