Every morning when you open your eyes, a superhero lives inside your heart and mind. This superhero doesn't wear a cape or fly through the sky, but it helps you with important things—it helps you think about what clothes to wear, decide whether to have baozi or noodles for breakfast, and figure out how to meet new friends or new teachers.
This superhero living in your heart has a special name—we call it "Mind Warrior." Today, we're going on a magical adventure to get to know this superhero and learn how to work together with it, so every day can be happier and more confident!
The Map of Your Mind
Before we start our adventure, let's understand the place we're going to visit. Just like you need a map when traveling to a new place, getting to know our minds needs a map too.
How Your Brain Works
Let's do a little experiment. Please raise your right hand and gently pat your head. Did you do it? Great! The hand you used to pat your head was your right hand, and inside your head, something very important is working—your brain.
Your brain is like an incredibly powerful supercomputer, but it's even more magical than any computer! It has three especially important parts:
The first part is your "Thinking Headquarters"—this part helps you think about problems and make decisions. For example, when the teacher asks "What is 2 plus 3?", this part helps you figure out that the answer is 5.
The second part is your "Emotion Castle"—this part creates all kinds of feelings for you. Happiness, sadness, anger, and fear all come from here. For example, when you see an adorable puppy, you feel happy; when you hear loud thunder, you might feel a bit scared.
The third part is your "Memory Treasure Chest"—this part stores all your memories. How you looked the first time you rode a bike, the lullaby Mom sang to you, the happy times playing with good friends—everything is safely kept here.

Now you know—your brain has so many amazing abilities! Every day, it helps you understand the world and handle all kinds of things. Sometimes things go smoothly and you feel happy and confident; but sometimes things might not go so well, and you feel worried or sad.
This brings us to an important concept we're introducing today—Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, or CBT for short.
What is Cognitive Behavioral Therapy
"Cognitive Behavioral Therapy" sounds like a very complicated term. Let's break it down and take a look.
"Cognitive" means "to know and recognize." In our minds, when something happens, our brain creates a thought or image. For example, you walk into the classroom and see your good friend waving at you. Your brain immediately thinks: "Oh, Xiao Ming is calling me!" That's a cognitive process.
"Behavioral" refers to what you do—your actions. You see Xiao Ming waving, then you walk over to him, pat his shoulder, and happily start chatting. That's behavior.
"Therapy" means methods that help us get better. Just like you need medicine to recover from a cold, when our minds "catch a cold"—like feeling very anxious, scared, or always down—we also need some methods to get better. Therapy is the general name for all these methods.
So, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) tells us this: your thoughts (cognition) and your actions (behavior) are closely connected. By changing some of our thoughts, we can change how we feel and what we do, making ourselves feel better!
A Simple Example
Let's use an example to see how CBT works. Imagine this scenario:
Xiao Ming didn't do well on his math test—he only got 70 points.
Before learning CBT, Xiao Ming might think like this:
"I'm so stupid! How could I be so bad at this! Everyone else is better than me. I'll never be good at this from now on. The teacher will definitely think I'm an idiot. No one will like someone like me."
Xiao Ming, thinking like this, would feel terrible—very sad, very discouraged, very self-pitying. He might go home and lock himself in his room, not wanting to talk to anyone. This is because one thought (thinking he's stupid) brings many bad feelings (sadness, discouragement) and bad behaviors (hiding, not talking to people).
After learning CBT, Xiao Ming can think like this:
"I only got 70 points this time. 70 points means there are some things I didn't master well. I need to find out what I'm not clear about and practice more. Last time I got 90 points, I did work hard to prepare. This time maybe I didn't review some things well enough. This doesn't mean I'm stupid—I'm just not prepared this time. Next time I can do better!"
Xiao Ming, thinking like this, would feel much better—though a bit disappointed, there's more motivation to work harder. He would take out his test paper, see where the problems are, and plan how to review next time. He might even ask the teacher or classmates to help clarify what he doesn't understand. This is because one thought ("I just wasn't prepared this time, I can work harder next time") brings positive emotions (motivated, not giving up) and good behaviors (analyzing problems, seeking help, planning improvements).
