This process was like us sleeping at night—Robby would "rest" while charging, and when it woke up the next morning, it would be full of energy again!

Little ones, you've definitely seen many machines, right? Like the TV, washing machine, and fridge at home, and the cars your parents drive—they're all machines. But do you know what a robot is? What's the difference between robots and ordinary machines?

"But robots are different!" Robby proudly spun around. "Robots have a 'brain'—a computer! They have 'feelings'—all kinds of sensors! They have a 'body'—hardware! Most importantly, robots have a 'soul'—programs!"

Let's play a little game! Imagine you have an ordinary alarm clock at home, and also a robot alarm clock like Robby.

普通的闹钟只能每天在固定的时间响铃，它不知道今天是周末还是上学日，也不知道你是不是昨晚睡得很晚。而机器人闹钟呢？它可以连接互联网，知道今天是星期几；如果它检测到你昨晚睡得很晚，它可能会提前15分钟轻轻地用音乐叫醒你，而不是用刺耳的闹铃声；如果你说"再睡五分钟"，它真的会等你五分钟后再响呢！

An ordinary alarm clock can only ring at a fixed time every day. It doesn't know if today is a weekend or a school day, and it doesn't know if you went to bed very late last night. But a robot alarm clock? It can connect to the internet and know what day of the week it is; if it detects that you stayed up very late, it might gently wake you up with music 15 minutes early instead of with a harsh alarm; and if you say "five more minutes," it will really wait five minutes before ringing again!

For example, if you give an ordinary washing machine an apple, it has no idea what to do—it just hums and won't wash the apple. But what if you give an intelligent robot an apple? What would it do? It might use its camera to "look" at it, then use its "brain" to think: Oh, this is an apple, it smells fresh. Maybe little master wants to eat it? Should I wash it first and then put it in the fridge?

Robby's body looked round and chubby, super cute. Its "head" was a small screen that could display expressions and text. Its "face" had two big blue eyes—actually two HD cameras that could see things just like human eyes. Robby's "ears" were two tiny microphones that could hear you speak. Its "mouth" was a small speaker that could make sounds and chat with you.
