Chapter 1 Overview of Blockchain Technology
The global financial crisis of 2008 brought public trust in centralized financial systems to an all-time low. On October 31 of the same year, an anonymous figure known as "Satoshi Nakamoto" released the white paper *Bitcoin: A Peer-to-Peer Electronic Cash System* on the Cypherpunk mailing list, proposing for the first time a distributed ledger architecture based on the Proof of Work (PoW) consensus mechanism, marking the official birth of blockchain technology.
The Cypherpunk movement emerged in the 1990s, with its core tenet being the protection of individual privacy and resistance to censorship and control by centralized institutions through cryptographic technology. In 1993, former Intel engineer Tim May released *The Crypto Anarchist Manifesto*, which became the programmatic document of the movement, explicitly proposing the vision of "building an electronic payment system not controlled by any government or institution through cryptographic technology", laying the ideological foundation for the birth of blockchain technology.
As the first落地application of blockchain technology, Bitcoin opened the era of Blockchain 1.0. Its core contribution is the realization of a decentralized peer-to-peer electronic cash system, solving the "Double Spending Problem" — the problem of digital assets being spent multiple times at the same time. Through the PoW consensus mechanism, block structure linked by hash pointers, asymmetric encryption signatures and other technologies, the Bitcoin network achieves trusted confirmation of transactions without the endorsement of a centralized third party. As of 2024, the Bitcoin network has been running for more than 15 years, with a peak computing power of over 600 EH/s and total on-chain transaction value exceeding 10 trillion US dollars, making it the cryptocurrency with the highest market value and the widest user base in the world.
However, Bitcoin was designed as an electronic cash system, and its scripting language only supports simple transfer logic, unable to support complex commercial application scenarios. In November 2013, 19-year-old programmer Vitalik Buterin released the white paper *Ethereum: A Next-Generation Smart Contract and Decentralized Application Platform*, proposing for the first time the concept of embedding smart contracts into the blockchain, marking the entry of blockchain into the 2.0 era. Smart contracts are a concept proposed by computer scientist Nick Szabo in 1994, defined as "a set of promises defined in digital form, including a protocol that the parties to the contract can execute these promises on", but due to the limitations of technology at that time, it has not been implemented for a long time. By introducing the Turing-complete Ethereum Virtual Machine (EVM), Ethereum allows developers to deploy any complex application logic on the blockchain, upgrading the blockchain from a simple payment system to a computing platform that can support various decentralized applications (DApps).
以太坊的诞生极大拓展了区块链的应用边界,从单纯的加密货币扩展到 DeFi(去中心化金融)、NFT(非同质化代币)、DAO(去中心化自治组织)等众多领域。 On July 30, 2015, the Ethereum mainnet was officially launched, with an initial price of 1 ETH = 0.31 USD, reaching a high of 4878 USD in 2021, with an increase of more than 15000 times. The birth of Ethereum greatly expands the application boundary of blockchain, from simple cryptocurrency to DeFi (Decentralized Finance), NFT (Non-Fungible Token), DAO (Decentralized Autonomous Organization) and many other fields. In September 2022, Ethereum completed the "Merge" upgrade, fully transitioning from PoW consensus to Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus, reducing the network's energy consumption by 99.95%, solving the high energy consumption problem of PoW consensus, and laying the foundation for the large-scale application of blockchain.

Core Characteristics of Blockchain
The core value of blockchain technology lies in its four core characteristics: decentralization, immutability, transparency & traceability, and consensus-driven. These characteristics jointly solve the trust problem in traditional centralized systems, enabling mutually distrustful parties to carry out trusted collaboration without the endorsement of a third party.
(Decentralization)
Decentralization is the most essential feature of blockchain, referring to the fact that there is no single controlling entity in the network, and all nodes are equal and jointly maintain the operation of the network. Traditional centralized systems (such as bank payment systems, e-commerce platforms) rely on central servers to process all transactions. Once the central server fails or is attacked, the entire system will be paralyzed; while blockchain adopts a Peer-to-Peer (P2P) network architecture, each node stores a full copy of the ledger, and even if some nodes go offline or are attacked, the network can still operate normally.
Taking cross-border payment a
