一个奇怪的生日礼物
小米（Xiaomi）今天过九岁生日 / Xiaomi is turning nine today.
客厅里堆满了礼物盒。粉色的、蓝色的、带着蝴蝶结的、印着卡通恐龙的……小米像一只兴奋的小松鼠，从这堆礼物蹦到那堆礼物，鼻子尖都冒出了细汗。妈妈站在一旁微笑，爸爸举着相机，奶奶端出了她最拿手的草莓蛋糕。
The living room was stacked with gift boxes. Pink ones, blue ones, ones with bows, ones printed with cartoon dinosaurs… Xiaomi hopped between them like an excited little squirrel, her nose tip dotted with sweat. Her mother stood smiling beside her, her father held up a camera, and grandma carried out her signature strawberry cake.
"这个是奶奶送的！这条裙子是姑姑买的！哇，这盒乐高是舅舅从网上订的！"小米一边拆一边喊，拆得不亦乐乎。
"This one's from grandma! That dress is from auntie! Wow, this Lego box was ordered online by uncle!" Xiaomi shouted as she unwrapped, having the time of her life.
可是当她拆到最后一个方方正正的银色盒子时，她愣住了。
But when she reached the last box — a neat silver one — she froze.
盒子上没有蝴蝶结，没有贺卡，只贴着一张泛着淡蓝光芒的小标签，上面用歪歪扭扭的字写着：
There was no bow, no greeting card, just a small label glowing with a soft blue light, with wobbly writing that said:
"亲爱的小米，这台电脑会等你来唤醒它。" "Dear Xiaomi, this computer will be waiting for you to wake it up."
没有落款。没有名字。盒子上也没有任何品牌 logo。
No signature. No name. Not a single brand logo on the box.
"这是谁送的呀？"小米抬头问。
"Who sent this?" Xiaomi looked up and asked.
妈妈摇摇头，爸爸也摇摇头，奶奶一边切蛋糕一边说："怪了，我送的是那双红皮鞋呀。"
Mom shook her head. Dad shook his head. Grandma, slicing cake, said, "Strange, I gave her the red leather shoes."
小米耸耸肩，把盒子抱回了自己的房间。她用小剪刀小心翼翼地划开胶带，掀开盒盖——
Xiaomi shrugged, carried the box to her room. She carefully sliced the tape with small scissors, lifted the lid—
盒子里躺着一台银色的笔记本电脑。键盘是白色的，屏幕边框上镶着一圈淡蓝色的细线。它看起来普普通通，可当小米把它捧起来的时候，她感觉这台电脑比普通的要轻，轻得像捧着一片云。
Inside lay a silver laptop. The keyboard was white, the screen rim was lined with a soft blue thread. It looked ordinary, but when Xiaomi lifted it, the laptop felt lighter than usual — as light as holding a cloud.
更奇怪的是——屏幕上，竟然已经亮着了。
Even stranger — the screen was already on.
屏幕不是平时那种桌面，而是一片深蓝的星空。星空中间，飘着一个淡黄色的小光点，像一颗会飞的小星星，又像一只眼睛，正一眨一眨地看着小米。
The screen wasn't the usual desktop but a deep blue starry sky. In the middle of the sky floated a small pale-yellow light point — like a flying little star, or an eye — blinking at Xiaomi.
小米瞪大了眼睛。她伸出手指，戳了一下那个小光点。
Xiaomi's eyes went wide. She stretched out a finger and poked the little light.
那个光点竟然躲了一下。
The light dodged.
小米又戳了一下，光点又躲了一下。
She poked again. It dodged again.
然后，一个细小的、像是风铃被风吹动的声音，从电脑的喇叭里飘了出来：
Then a tiny sound, like a wind chime caught by a breeze, drifted out of the laptop's speaker:
"哎哟哎哟，你好呀小米。我等你好久啦。"
"Ow ow, hello Xiaomi. I've been waiting for you for a long time."
小米吓得差点把电脑摔到地上。她差点尖叫出声，又硬生生捂住了嘴巴。
Xiaomi nearly dropped the laptop. She almost screamed but clapped a hand over her mouth.
"你……你……你是谁？你在哪儿？"小米结结巴巴地问。
"You… you… who are you? Where are you?" Xiaomi stammered.
光点调皮地在屏幕上转了一个圈，然后慢慢变成了一个可爱的小人形状——圆圆的脑袋，短短的腿，手里还捧着一本会发光的小书。
The light playfully spun a circle on the screen, then slowly took the shape of a cute little person — a round head, short legs, holding a glowing little book.
"我是噜米呀！"小人笑眯眯地说，"我住在你的电脑里，你叫我噜米就行。噜——米——，就是《魔戒》里那颗发光的小植物，意思是'光之花'。从今天起，我就是你的魔法小伙伴啦！"
"I'm Lumi!" the little figure said with a smile. "I live in your computer. Just call me Lumi. Lu—mi— it's the glowing little plant in *The Lord of the Rings*, meaning 'flower of light'. From today, I'm your magical little buddy!"
小米盯着屏幕，脑子一片空白。
Xiaomi stared at the screen, her mind blank.
"魔法小伙伴？"她小声重复。
"Magic buddy?" she repeated softly.
"对呀。"噜米点点头，把手里的小书翻开了一页。屏幕上出现了一行漂亮的字：
"That's right." Lumi nodded, opening the little book. A line of pretty text appeared on screen:
``` "AI 魔法师学院入学通知书" "AI Wizard Academy Enrollment Notice" "学员：小米 (Xiaomi)" "导师：噜米 (Lumi)" "今日课题：什么是 AI 原生应用？" ```
"别怕别怕，"噜米看见小米紧张，连忙摆手，"我不是来吓你的。我是来教你的。从今天起，你就是 AI 魔法师学院的小学员啦，我会一个魔法一个魔法地教你，让你成为这个新世界的小魔法师。"
"Don't be scared, don't be scared," Lumi saw Xiaomi tense and quickly waved her tiny hands. "I'm not here to scare you. I'm here to teach you. From today, you're a little student of the AI Wizard Academy. I'll teach you magic one by one, and you'll become a little wizard of this new world."
"可是……可是 AI 是什么呀？"小米问。
"But… but what is AI?" Xiaomi asked.
噜米笑了，光点一闪一闪："AI 啊，就是'Artificial Intelligence'，翻译成中文就是'人工智能'。但今天我先不教你这个单词怎么拼，我要先教你一件更重要的事——"

她把手里的小书翻到了第二页，指着上面写的一行大字：

Xiaomi, half-believing, leaned close to the computer and whispered: "Excuse me, what is 23 times 47?"
屏幕上立刻跳出一行字：
The screen immediately jumped to a line:

然后噜米还补了一句："你看，连计算器都不用按，直接问就行。1081。"
Then Lumi added: "See, you don't even need to press a calculator. Just ask. 1081."
"哇！"小米眼睛亮了，"你真厉害！"
"Wow!" Xiaomi's eyes lit up. "You're amazing!"
"我哪里厉害啦，"噜米笑嘻嘻，"是电脑厉害，我只是住在电脑里而已。你知道吗？这种'直接用说话就能让它做事'的电脑程序，就叫做'AI 原生应用'。这就是你今天要学的第一个魔法。"
"Where am I amazing?" Lumi grinned. "It's the computer that's amazing. I just live inside it. You know what? This kind of computer program, the kind where you just talk to it and it does things for you, is called an 'AI-native application'. That's the first magic you need to learn today."
小米拼命点头，眼睛里满是好奇。她感觉自己的生活，像那个小小的银色盒子一样，被悄悄打开了一角。
Xiaomi nodded hard, her eyes full of curiosity. She felt her life, like that little silver box, had been quietly pried open by a corner.
窗外，夕阳把云彩染成了橙红色，远处传来小朋友玩耍的笑声。噜米在屏幕上飞来飞去，像一只快乐的小萤火虫。
Outside the window, the sunset painted the clouds orange-red, and the laughter of children playing drifted from far away. Lumi flew back and forth on the screen like a happy little firefly.

"I just say it," Xiaomi answered without thinking. "If I want to eat strawberry cake, I just say 'Mom, I want to eat strawberry cake'. I don't first press a button, flip a switch, then input into the air 'please give me a strawberry cake, thank you'."
"对啦！"噜米开心地拍起小手，"这才是人类最自然的方式。我们人类，从生下来开始，最擅长的沟通方式就是'说话'。我们用嘴巴说，用耳朵听，用眼睛看手势。"
