Welcome to the World of Robots
Welcome to the World of Robots
Starting with the "Little Helper" in Your Living Room
Have you noticed that round little device in your home that moves around on its own? It walks around the house every day,钻进沙发底下, sucking up dust and crumbs into its "belly." When it finishes its work, it returns to a small charging dock as if knowing it needs to rest. This little helper is the vacuum cleaning robot—Robot Aspirador—one of the closest robot family members to our daily lives.
Let's do a little experiment. The next time you see a vacuum robot working, crouch down and observe it carefully. You'll notice it has a round "head"—that's its control center; it has several "little eyes"—those are sensors that help it detect walls and furniture; and it has "feet"—actually two rotating wheels. When it bumps into an obstacle, it gently turns and continues moving. Isn't that amazing?
The vacuum cleaning robot is like a hardworking little elf. It can sense where it is, plan its cleaning route, and make decisions on its own—when to turn, when to stop and recharge. These abilities are precisely what distinguish robots from ordinary machines.
What is a Robot?
Scientists and engineers have spent a lot of time thinking: what exactly is a robot? They discovered that robots have several very important characteristics:
First, robots can sense their surroundings. Just like your eyes can see colors and shapes, and your ears can hear sounds, robots have their own "eyes" and "ears." However, a robot's "eyes" might be cameras, and its "ears" might be microphones or other special sensors.
Second, robots can think and plan. Robots have a special "brain"—a computer. This "brain" can process the information collected by sensors, just like your brain processes what you see and hear. Then it decides what to do next.
Third, robots can take actions. Robots can move their bodies or manipulate arms to grab objects and assemble parts. Execution is the process of robots turning thoughts into actions.
Let's understand the three main abilities of robots with a picture:

This diagram tells us that a complete robot, like a complete person, needs to be able to perceive the world, think about problems, and take action. Without any one of these parts, a robot cannot work properly.
Robots Are All Around You
You might think robots are high-tech things that only exist in laboratories or factories. But in reality, robots might be right by your side, even in your home!
The "Little Waiter" That Serves Food
Have you seen a special kind of robot in a restaurant? It has no legs but can walk steadily around the restaurant; it has a large tray that can carry dishes and rice. When the waiter puts food on its tray and tells it which table to go to, it walks there by itself and delivers the food to the guests. This kind of robot is called a Food Delivery Robot.
How does a food delivery robot work? It has a Lidar sensor on top, similar to how bats use ultrasound to determine direction, the robot emits laser beams to measure distances to surrounding objects. It has its own "map" and knows where it is and where the target table is. It avoids waiters and customers walking around, safely delivering food to its destination.
Flying Robots" in the Sky
Look up at the sky! Have you seen drones flying in the sky? Drones are flying robots, called Unmanned Aerial Vehicle, or UAV for short.
There are many types of drones. Small ones are about the size of a book, and you can hold them in your hand to play with; larger ones are like small airplanes, helping farmers spray pesticides or helping police patrol. Military drones can fly very high and far, performing special missions.
How do drones fly? They're different from remote-controlled airplanes. Remote-controlled airplanes need constant human operation, but drones can maintain balance and control their flight direction on their own. Operators only need to tell them where to go, and they fly there by themselves. That's why we call them "unmanned" vehicles—not because no one manages them, but because they can execute many flight tasks on their own without constant human control.

Super Workers" in Factories
You might have seen this type of robot: it has a sturdy arm that can rotate and bend like a human's. At the end of this big arm is a nimble "hand" that can grab things, tighten screws, and weld metal. This is an industrial robot, called an Industrial Robot.
Industrial robots in factories are amazing! They can work continuously for a long time without getting tired. They can assemble cars on assembly lines—every car has thousands of parts, and robots can precisely install each part in the correct position. Their movements are extremely precise, accurate to within a fraction of a millimeter, even more precise than human hands!
Industrial robots love doing repetitive work that requires high precision. Like welding car bodies, painting, and moving heavy objects. If these jobs were done by humans, it would be not only exhausting but also potentially imprecise. But robots can do them quickly and well.
The "Smart Robot" That Plays Chess
Have you heard of AlphaGo? It's an artificial intelligence program developed by Google that once de
